It’s an easy mix-up, since the two look similar, and the confusion has stuck for generations.

What matters for anyone visiting is the effect: an 11-hectare grove of wind-bent, silvery-green trees growing straight out of the dunes, casting patches of shade you won't find on any other beach nearby. The grove is part of a protected natural area, so the trees are fragile and best admired rather than touched. It took them many years to grow and form a unique, gentle ecosystem.

Crete Kedrodasos is often described by visitors as the wilder, quieter sibling of Elafonissi, and that reputation holds up. The approach is rugged: a stretch of dirt road, then a 10- to 20-minute walk over rocky terrain to reach the sand. Kedrodasos Beach: How to Get There

By car (recommended): From Chania, follow the road toward Kissamos, then to Elafonissi. The trip takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. The last stretch before Elafonissi turns onto a dirt road, which is rough but manageable with an ordinary rental car. Park in the informal area near the top of the cliffs, then walk 10–15 minutes down a marked path to the beach.

On foot from Elafonissi: If you're already at Elafonissi, you can walk to Kedrodasos in about 20–30 minutes along a coastal path through the juniper forest. Wear proper walking shoes because while the trail is scenic, it’s also uneven.

By boat: You will see seasonal boat excursions from Paleochora, Chania, and Kissamos, which combine Kedrodasos with Elafonissi and Balos Lagoon. These are useful if you'd rather skip the drive entirely, and they provide you with a stunning view of the coastline, as you witness it from the sea rather than land.

Bring water, food, and sun protection because there's nothing to buy once you're there.
