Travelling to Akrotiri Peninsula Beaches

Set off for a trip to explore every area of the stunning Akrotiri Peninsula, eastern of Chania, just 10km away from its medieval down town. Akrotiri's peninsula functions as a dam, protecting Souda's  bay from the fierce northern winds. Picturesque seashores of sand, pebbles, wild nature, and a shining sun as the leader actor giving the performance together with the sea in all shades of blue.

Saint Onufrio's 1.5 km from Kounoupidiana, after the picturesque church you meet a small windless harbour with sand and clean waters. Trees offer shadows and cool breath to rest.

Kalathas Large and quite popular beach lies at the west shore of Akrotiri, is consider one of the most beautiful in the area, well organised and vulnerable to the north winds and the high waves they create. The beach is famous for the little isle that stands 200mts away from the shore with easy access even by swimming.

Tersanas At the opposite of Kalathas, 2 km away the sea shore is sandy and quite well protected from the wind with calm and clean waters, normally quiet and less visited compared with other Akrotiri beaches.

Machairida Northern of Tersanas, a secluded beach hidden inside a rocky gulf with pure white shore, surrounded by sharp rocks. The beach is not organised, and nearby lies a small lake.

Stavros The most famous beach of Akrotiri, lies at the northern edge of the peninsula, is a sandy lagoon, with cyan-green waters and exotic beauty, in which scenes from the movie Zorbas the Greek with the famous syrtaki by Antony Quinn, made the beach famous all over the world. Western to the central beach, at about 200mts another smaller beach with fat sand appears, vulnerable to north winds. Almyriki restaurant is the right choice for tasting heavenly traditional cuisine.

Seitan Limani (Stefanou) In between steep rocks, stones and bushes emerges the enchanting small paradise beach of 25mts with crystal emerald waters will reward the guest for the tiring ride along the sharp stone path. You find it at the Hordaki village, 5km away from Chania Airport.      

Loutraki Moving towards south-east, the beach is known to the natives as well as to foreigners for having  thin sand and safe light blue waters protected from the winds and together with some canteens around makes it the ideal family beach.

Marathi Another popular beach, large and organised with sand and swallow waters, perfect for families makes the stay a pleasant and relaxing at the restaurants and bars of the beach.
