Low season Crete

Many people ask: When is the best time to visit Crete? For many travelers, the best time to go to Crete for holidays might be the quieter time in order to get most out of the 'real life' in island, skipping the negative effects of the overcrowded places- whether they be cities, historical sites, beaches or restaurants. Lower season also is preferable for lower prices, shorter queues, great deals in accommodation and free space to accomplish more activities.

Crete has an average of 300 days of sunshine a year, so you are able to be confident of getting the proper tan. In general, spring and autumn are preferable in order to avoid the summer heat in the biggest Greek island, especially in April and May and from mid-September to mid-October. These are the milder months better for hiking in the mountains, cycling along beachside locations, swimming in the clearest waters you have ever seen, walking on the fabulously soft sandy shoreline, experiencing the olive and grape harvest, etc.  

However, we believe there is no such best time to visit Crete, it depends what  guest priorities are, what type of traveler you are and what experience you are  keen to get involved with. As a final point, remember that Crete is big and varied enough for travelers to easily spend a full holiday and is a place with its own weather zones, which change as you go north and south or east and west across the island.
